NIBONG TEBAL: A factory engineer never expected that arriving on his motorcycle at the Aspen-Klippa Penang Bridge International Marathon (PBIM) 2025 would result in him heading home with a brand new car.
Cham Chiong Fook,43, who lives in George Town, said it has been about six years since he last took part in the competition.
"I came on my own, rode my motorcycle here and arrived slightly after midnight," he said.
Cham, who participated in the half-marathon category, said it was really fun to run, and that his participation this time was even more fun because he ended up winning a car.
He said he feels happy and feels his luck was on his side when his name was announced as the grand prize winner of the lucky draw.
He described his participation this year as a perfect mix of fitness, fun and an unforgettable surprise.
Cham was presented with a mock key to the Proton S70 during the prize-giving ceremony by state tourism committee chairman Wong Hon Wai, together with Proton’s Department Director of Sales and Product Marketing Ong Chee Wooi and Kevin Zhang Wen.
Meanwhile, two other lucky draw winners, Penangite Ooi Chew Hoon, 50, and Kedah resident Tan Xin Rou, 28, each took home a scooter.
About 25,000 participants from 64 countries attended this year's marathon.
PBIM is the longest bridge marathon in Southeast Asia and is one of the region’s most challenging races.
Located on the Penang Second Bridge, the course challenges runners with strong crosswinds, elevation changes, and the mental endurance of running through the night.
