No return for parties that leave BN, says Zahid


SEMENYIH: Any Barisan Nasional component party that leaves the coalition will not be accepted back into the fold, says Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

He said the seven-decade history of friendship and loyalty in Barisan should be valued and not set aside just because there is dissatisfaction, Astro Awani reported him as saying.

"Don't make decisions when you're 'drunk with power' and overlook that we've been friends," he said when opening the general assembly of the All-Malaysian Indian Progress Front at Setia Ecohill here on Sunday (Dec 14).

Zahid, who is Barisan Chairman and also Deputy Prime Minister, said there was no place in politics for decisions driven by anger, sadness or desperation but instead requires patience and careful consideration, as the political landscape is constantly evolving.

When asked at a press conference if MIC had sent any resolution to leave Barisan, he said:

"I haven't seen any resolution or letter and, of course, we haven't made any decision – but if they can't make a decision, we will."

At the MIC AGM in November, party delegates unanimously approved a motion to leave Barisan and join Perikatan Nasional.

However, delegates also agreed to postpone the final decision on the matter until the next central working committee meeting to give the party's top leadership time to consider the matter.
