No foul play in deadly condo fire, say cops

PETALING JAYA: Police have ruled out any criminal elements in a fire at a condominium unit on the 26th floor of a building in Segambut on Wednesday night, which claimed the life of a 38-year-old man.

Brickfields OCPD Asst Comm Hoo Chang Hook said preliminary investigations found no signs of foul play, and the case has been classified as sudden death.

“Forensic investigators and the Fire and Rescue Department’s K9 unit revisited the scene to assist with the probe, and no criminal elements were detected,” he said yesterday, reported Bernama.

ACP Hoo said the victim, a part-time artist, had been living alone in the unit since 2021 and last contacted his family at 2pm on Saturday.

A post-mortem conducted at Universiti Malaya Medical Centre confirmed the cause of death as severe burns.

Earlier, the Kuala Lumpur Fire and Rescue Department operations centre, in a statement, said the victim was found with burns all over his body on the balcony of the unit and was pronounced dead at the scene.
