Husband remanded for seven days in murder of wife in Seberang Jaya

BUTTERWORTH: The suspect who killed his wife at their house in a flat in Seberang Jaya has been remanded for seven days to assist police investigations.

The remand order against the 28-year-old man was issued by Magistrate J. Savinder Singh at the Bukit Mertajam Magistrate’s Court on Friday (Dec 12).

It was learned that the suspect was jobless and was detained to assist investigations under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.

The remand order ends on Dec 18.

Earlier, the suspect, clad in an orange lockup suit, was brought by police in handcuffs and arrived at the Bukit Mertajam Court Complex at about 8.45 am.

On Thursday (Dec 11), a woman was found dead with slash wounds to her neck, allegedly murdered by her husband, who kept her body in their unit at Flat Jalan Tuna, Seberang Jaya, for four days.

The unemployed man later walked into the Seberang Jaya police station to report the death of his 44-year-old wife.

The couple had been married for two years.

Checks revealed that the suspect has several prior records involving drug-related and criminal offences.

Central Seberang Perai OCPD Asst Comm Helmi Aris, in a statement, said police were still investigating to determine the motive and the circumstances leading to the incident.

He advised the public not to engage in any speculation that could disrupt the ongoing investigation.

"Witnesses with information on the incident come forward to the central Seberang Perai headquarters or the nearest police station to assist in the probe," he said.
