Perlis mufti urged to share details on alleged Korean cult in Malaysia

PUTRAJAYA: Perlis Mufti Datuk Mohd Asri Zainul Abidin (pic), better known as Dr Maza, has been urged to come forward with information on a Korean cult movement reportedly operating in Malaysia and allegedly involved in suspicious and deviant activities.

Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said such information should be submitted directly to the police.

"In the Special Branch department, there is a dedicated unit specifically for this. So if he has any information about the group, their activities, modus operandi or the individuals involved, I suggest he come forward and share it with the authorities.

"We will promptly begin investigations into the deviant practices," Saifuddin told a press conference after attending the ministry’s monthly assembly on Thursday (Dec 11).

He explained that the Special Branch has a unit dedicated to handling deviant teachings, covering practices that deviate from established norms across various religions and their followers.

Saifuddin said those with knowledge of such cases must provide information to the authorities, especially the police.

Asked whether any police reports had been lodged regarding the movement, Saifuddin clarified that, to his knowledge, no reports have been received so far.

Earlier, it was reported that Mohd Asri mentioned a briefing on the cult movement had been given during a Perlis State Fatwa Committee meeting.

It was believed that several Muslim Members of Parliament and other prominent individuals in Parliament appeared to be actively participating in and assisting the movement.
