Over 27,000 burst pipes reported in Negri since 2021


SEREMBAN: A total of 27,279 cases of burst pipes were recorded in Negri Sembilan through the Syarikat Air Negri Sembilan (Sains) complaint registration system from 2021 until this October, says Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun.

Of the total, Seremban recorded the highest number with 11,059 cases, Kuala Pilah (3,928), Jempol (3,050), Tampin (2,913), Port Dickson (2,554), Jelebu (2,247) and Rembau (1,528).

He said the total expenditure for the period was estimated at RM147mil covering repair works, pipe replacement and road surface rehabilitation.

“The level of pipe damage involves categories of minor leaks, joint failure and main burst, depending on the location and pressure of the channel.

“For repair work, the type of material used includes mild steel pipes and UPVC pipes according to the appropriate size and water pressure at the location of the incident,” he told the state legislative assembly here yesterday.

Aminuddin said 68 locations involving pipes of 243km were identified through collaboration between the Energy Transition and Water Transformation Ministry (Petra), Pengurusan Aset Air Bhd (PAAB) and Sains.

“For pipe replacement through Sains allocation, it involves 12 locations around Seremban, Port Dickson, Jempol, Tampin, Kuala Pilah, Rembau and Jelebu, involving a length of 14.2km.

“Pipe replacement through PAAB allocation involves 16 locations in Seremban, Port Dickson, Kuala Pilah, Rembau, Jelebu and Jempol, involving a length of 60.8km,” he said.

Pipe replacement through Petra allocation involves 40 locations around Seremban, Port Dickson, Jempol, Tampin, Kuala Pilah, Rembau and Jelebu, involving a total length of 168km.
