Immigration officer caught over ‘flying passport’

JOHOR BARU: An enforcement officer at the Bangunan Sultan Iskandar Customs, Immigration and Quarantine complex (BSI) has been detained for alleged involvement in a “flying passport” activity.

Border Control and Protection Agency BSI commander Roszita Dim said officers seized eight passports soon after the 32-year-old male suspect was arrested at about 11.30am on Sunday.

Among the passports seized were six from China and one each from Indonesia and Vietnam.

She said the officer was first detained by the integrity unit at the bus entry hall at BSI for having two mobile phones.

“According to regulations, all mobile phones need to be surrendered to the duty supervisor when they start work.

“The officer was unable to provide an explanation about the existence of the two mobile phones. Investigations led officers to the suspect’s motorcycle parked within the BSI compound area where the passports were found.”

The suspect has been remanded for four days and his motorcycle, mobile phones and passports have been seized.

In July, four enforcement officers were arrested for a similar offence.
