Stranded Malaysian scam victims to be brought back on Dec 9, says envoy

PETALING JAYA: A total of 32 Malaysian scam victims who were stranded at the Myanmar-Thailand border have been brought into Thailand by the Royal Thai Army, the Ambassador of Malaysia to Thailand reports.

Datuk Wan Zaidi Wan Abdullah said this in a statement to Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan on Monday (Dec 8).

He said that the scam victims have been brought to the Second Friendship Bridge in Mae Sot for screening and preparations to return them to Malaysia following a request for humanitarian assistance from the embassy.

"Embassy officers are currently on the way to Mae Sot with two buses that will transport them directly to Danok and Bukit Kayu Hitam on Tuesday.

"The 21 Malaysian victims who are under the supervision of the Myanmar government are also scheduled to be brought to Danok and Malaysia tomorrow under the same operation," he said.
