MCMC helping cops trace account linked to death threats against lawyer

PETALING JAYA: The police have asked the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) for help with the social media account linked to alleged death threats against a lawyer involved in the case of three men who were shot dead in Melaka.

Petaling Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Shamsudin Mamat said when contacted on Monday (Dec 8) that the request was made for information on the account holder.

"We are still awaiting the report from (the MCMC) side. For now, we have only recorded the complainant's statement," he added.

ACP Shamsudin had said previously that the lawyer lodged a report on Friday (Dec 5) after he read a social media comment by an unknown individual at his office here.

Three men, aged 24 to 29, were killed at 4.30am on Nov 24 after one of them allegedly slashed a police corporal with a machete at an oil palm plantation in Durian Tunggal, while reportedly on their way to commit a robbery.

On Thursday (Dec 4), Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department director Comm Datuk M. Kumar said that a task force had been set up to look into claims made by family members of the three men who were dissatisfied with the actions of the police.
