KUALA LUMPUR: Four motorcycles were seized and 65 notices issued for various offences during a joint late-night operation at several hotspots in the city centre.
Kuala Lumpur Road Transport Department (JPJ) director Hamidi Adam said the operation, which involved JPJ and the Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department (JSPT), was carried out from 2am to 5am on Sunday (Dec 7).
“Multiple offences were detected, including extreme exhaust modifications, fancy or non-standard number plates, riding without a licence and expired road tax.
“We also uncovered offences such as lack of insurance coverage, faulty or missing rear brakes, as well as the use of fake registration numbers,” he said in a statement on Monday.
Hamidi said several serious safety violations were also uncovered, including a rider who admitted spending nearly RM11,000 on modifications that still failed to meet safety standards.
“Another motorcycle had a road tax that expired in 2011, while one motorcycle was found using cable ties as brake fasteners, posing a severe safety risk.
“A motorcyclist was also found to have 11 outstanding summonses,” he added.
He said investigations showed that those involved had travelled from various locations, including Negri Sembilan, Kuala Selangor, Klang and other parts of the Klang Valley, to gather for high-risk activities during late-night hours in the city centre.
“Enforcement against dangerous and heavily modified motorcycles will be further intensified next year, especially at identified hotspot zones.
“We will continue these targeted operations until the end of the year, focusing on peak hours when high-risk groups usually gather,” he said.
Hamidi also urged the public to channel information on traffic violations through official channels such as the MyJPJ app (e-Aduan) or via email at aduantrafik@jpj.gov.my.
“Accurate public reports will help strengthen enforcement efforts and ensure road safety for all,” he said.
