Couple found drowned in car that plunged into Sg Rompin


KUANTAN: The bodies of a husband and wife who were reported missing after the car they were travelling in plunged into the Rompin River near Kampung Rantau Panjang, Kuala Rompin on Tuesday (Dec 2) have been found.

Rompin OCPD Supt Sharif Shai Sharif Mondoi said the bodies of lorry driver Mohd Zairil Bidin, 40, and his wife, a housewife, Aisyah Shafie, 55, were found inside the car around 3pm on Wednesday (Dec 3).

He said the car was located by a search and rescue team at the bottom of the Rompin River, approximately 59m from the site where the vehicle fell into the water.

"The vehicle was retrieved using a crane before the victims' remains were found inside the car," he said in a statement on Wednesday, adding that the bodies were taken to Rompin Hospital for a post-mortem.

He added that the operation involving the Fire and Rescue Department of Malaysia, the Civil Defence Force and local villagers, concluded at 3.11pm. – Bernama
