Four Colombians charged with burglary


KUALA LUMPUR: Four Colombian men were charged in two Sessions Courts here with breaking into two houses and stealing jewellery and cash two months ago.

Jorge Ivan Cardona Sanchez, 35, Christian Camilo Cortes Sanchez, 32, Oscar Jesus Gonzales Nieto, 30, and Jhon Pablo Espitia Riverros, 47, pleaded not guilty to the charges, read out to them in Spanish on Monday (Dec 1).

In the court before Judge Suhaila Haron, the four men are jointly charged with breaking into a house and stealing jewellery and cash, in various currencies, amounting to RM150,000, belonging to an Australian man and a local woman.

The offence was allegedly committed at a house in Lorong Setia Bistari, Bukit Damansara, here at 8.06pm last Oct 10. 

They are charged under Section 457 and Section 379 of the Penal Code, for housebreaking and theft, respectively, read together with Section 34 of the same law.

The four Colombian men were also charged before Sessions Court judge Dr Azrol Abdullah with jointly breaking into a house and stealing possessions belonging to 38-year-old woman at Desa Sri Hartamas here at 9pm last Oct 11.

No bail was allowed and both courts set Jan 9 for mention.

The prosecution was conducted by deputy public prosecutors Nor Aisyah Mohamed Zanyuin and Mohamad Ikhwan Mohd Nasir, while all the accused were represented by lawyer Nurshafiqa Balqish Jaffri.- Bernama
