Tropical Storm Senyar: Floods, landslides and fallen trees reported across Perak

IPOH: Several cases of fallen trees were reported across Perak as a result of Tropical Storm Senyar, says a state disaster management committee spokesman.

However, the spokesperson said that no casualties or damage to homes were reported.

“Senyar brought continuous rainfall across parts of Perak, causing river water levels to rise.

“The overflowing rivers triggered flooding, and the unstable water levels made it difficult for victims to return home immediately,” he said when contacted.

He added that continuous heavy rain has caused widespread flooding, mass evacuations, numerous fallen trees, especially along major roads and several landslides in hilly areas.

He added that about six locations have been involved, namely at Batu Gajah, Bagan Datuk, Batang Padang, Taiping, Hilir Perak and Kuala Kangsar.

“It happened between 12am and 6am today (Nov 28).

The spokesperson said that teams are on standby with measures taken to increase manpower, ensure logistics readiness, activating the Early Warning System, and preparing welfare support and rescue equipment.

The spokesperson also cautioned the public to prioritise safety by following instructions from the authorities and evacuate to temporary relief centres immediately if ordered.

“Avoid activities near coastlines, rivers, waterways, and high-risk hilly areas prone to landslides.

“Prepare an emergency kit (important documents, medication, torchlight, power bank, basic food and water for 72 hours.

“Secure outdoor items, reinforce movable structures and keep vehicles away from low-lying areas,” he added.

The spokesperson also advised the public to follow official channels such as MetMalaysia, the Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID), (PublicInfoBanjir), National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma) and official state Facebook portals, as well as mainstream media, for the latest warnings and temporary relief centre locations.
