KUALA LUMPUR: Former senior political secretary to the Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin, is expected to appear at the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) headquarters in Putrajaya today to assist with an investigation into allegations that he received bribes from businessman Albert Tei.
MACC chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki said three individuals have so far been identified to provide statements in connection with the case.
“This includes a woman known as Sofia Rini Buyong, who came forward and provided her statement at 2pm.
“An investigation paper has been opened following a report by an online news portal alleging that Albert Tei had given bribes to Shamsul Iskandar during his tenure as senior political secretary,” he said when contacted yesterday.
Azam added that Shamsul Iskandar is scheduled to meet investigators today as he is currently in Kota Kinabalu and needs to arrange a flight back to Kuala Lumpur.
“Albert Tei will be summoned on Dec 1 after requesting a postponement due to unavoidable technical issues,” he said.
He stressed that all individuals called in must extend full cooperation to ensure the investigation can be completed promptly.
“I have instructed officers to wrap up the investigation within two weeks.
“This is a serious matter, and we aim to resolve it as soon as possible,” he said.
On Tuesday, Shamsul Iskandar confirmed he had submitted his resignation letter to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
In a statement on X, Shamsul Iskandar claimed there were attempts to target him with allegations that could tarnish the image of the government.
Earlier, Anwar said he accepted Shamsul Iskandar’s resignation and reiterated that the MACC is free to conduct its investigation without external interference regarding the allegations involving the former Hang Tuah Jaya MP.
