IPOH: Nearly 700 residents of the Puncak Arabella Apartments in Tanah Rata in Cameron Highlands are left isolated after a landslide struck the hillside on Friday night (Nov 28).

Cameron Highlands OCPD Deputy Supt Azri Ramli said the incident was believed to have occurred at around 8.30pm, causing the sole access road to the apartment complex, Jalan Puncak Arabella to be completely cut off.

“According to an initial report issued at 10pm, the landslide involved a section of the slope adjacent to the apartment blocks.

“The Civil Defence Force (APM), police and Fire and Rescue Department were immediately deployed for safety assessments and to evaluate the stability of the surrounding area.

“The Cameron Highlands District Council and district office have also been notified and are coordinating early response efforts,” he said.

He said further updates would be issued as assessments continue.
