KIMANIS: Despite its candidates considered as underdogs, Barisan Nasional believes it is on the right track to gain voters’ support, says its chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

He said a consistent approach of engaging directly with voters has had a positive impact on Barisan and voters’ reception towards the coalition.

“Our candidates are underdogs, and we are working through consistent engagement.

“We are confident our efforts have satisfied the targeted voters. God willing, they will cast their votes for us,” he told reporters after launching the Sentuhan Kasih Desa @ Bongawan event.

Ahmad Zahid said Barisan’s machinery is refining its final operations to ensure continued support for the party until polling day, Bernama reported.

When asked on issues he was concerned about, Ahmad Zahid cited attempts by opponents to sway the coalition’s voters at the last minute.

“For example, being ‘poached’ by another party... that must not happen. I urge Barisan voters to remain steadfast, consistent and firm,” he said.

On another matter, Ahmad Zahid said there is no issue with regards to former Umno member Khairy Jamaluddin’s participation in several campaign programmes as it was done in a personal capacity.

He said Khairy’s involvement is the right of any individual who wishes to support friends in politics or specific candidates.

Barisan is contesting 45 of the 73 seats up for grabs. Polling is tomorrow.
