Aide’s swift resignation proof of govt integrity, says Anwar

KOTA KINABALU: The resignation of his senior political secretary reflects how this administration upholds the highest level of integrity, says Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim (pic).

The Prime Minister said Datuk Seri Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin’s resignation from his post is unprecedented.

“There was an immediate resignation and request for the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission to conduct an investigation.

“Has that happened before?” he asked at a programme with the youths.

The Prime Minister reiterated that those found guilty of corruption will face the full brunt of the law.

“I told my staff, if you are found to be guilty, you must face the music. Full investigations and bring them to court,” he said.

“For this country to succeed, we must start with good governance.”

On Tuesday, Shamsul Iskandar announced his resignation as the Prime Minister’s senior political secretary after an attempt to implicate him in matters that could damage the image of the government.

The MACC has started investigations into claims implicating both Shamsul Iskandar and controversial businessman Albert Tei, who alleged that he had spent a sum of money on the former to help recover funds allegedly channelled to Sabah politicians.

Tei is also at the centre of controversy after he allegedly gave bribes to several Sabah leaders in order to obtain mineral prospecting licences.
