Boy feared drowned after falling into drain in Masjid Tanah


ALOR GAJAH: A 10-year-old boy is feared drowned after reportedly falling into a drain at Taman Bidara Permai in Masjid Tanah here on Thursday (Nov 27).

Head of Zone 2 of the Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department Melaka Fire Superintendent Zulkhairani Ramli said his department received the distress call at 5.47pm before arriving at the scene 13 minutes later.

"Initial information is that a boy aged about 10 fell into a drain leading to a catchment area due to strong currents following heavy rain.

"We are currently carrying out a search and rescue (SAR) operation for the victim," he said in a statement here tonight.

Zulkhairani said 13 personnel, including five members of the Water Rescue Team (PPDA), have been deployed to the location for the search. – Bernama
