LIKE a tragic twist from Romeo and Juliet, a Tamil Nadu farmer took his own life believing his snake-bitten wife would not survive, only for her to make a swift recovery days later.

The man in India died after drinking poison, Makkal Osai reported.

The woman who was identified as Lalitha, 54, from Thiruvarur, Tamil Nadu, was apparently bitten while working in the padi fields and was rushed to the hospital.

Her husband Nagarajan, 60, who visited her in the hospital apparently went home and drank poison, convinced his wife would not survive.

The couple’s son who went home later was shocked to find his father unconscious and an empty bottle of weedkiller nearby.

Nagarajan was rushed to the hospital and underwent treatment for two weeks before succumbing to internal injuries from the strong poison.

Meanwhile Lalitha recovered and went home after just three days.

Nagarajan’s tragic death has left the family and the village in shock.
