Two killed in collision involving three lorries on NSE

MUAR: A lorry driver and his assistant died on the spot following a collision of three lorries along the North-South Expressway near here.

Muar OCPD Asst Comm Raiz Mukhliz Azman Aziz said the accident occurred at KM129.9 at around 6am on Wednesday (Nov 26).

He said the first trailer was on the left lane heading towards Johor Baru when another trailer crashed into it from behind.

“A third lorry behind both heavy vehicles could not avoid them in time and crashed into the pile.

“As a result, the 23-year-old lorry driver and his 24-year-old assistant were trapped in the vehicle and had to be extricated by the Fire and Rescue Department,” he said in a statement.

He added that both men were pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the first trailer was unhurt while the second trailer driver sustained minor injuries and received treatment at the Yong Peng health clinic, he said.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which addresses causing death by reckless driving.

ACP Raiz Mukhliz urged witnesses to come forward and assist the police in their investigation by contacting Insp Muhamad Azim Aziz at 018-9704143 or by heading to the Muar police headquarters.
