Sabah’s next government must uphold unity and tolerance, says Zahid

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi is greeted with applause as he arrives for a ramah mesra event with the Indian community in Sabah, drawing a large multiracial crowd at the gathering.

KOTA KINABALU: Unity among different races and religions is the cornerstone of Malaysian culture, and the next Sabah state government must prioritise tolerance in society, says Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

"“Whoever leads the next state government must ensure tolerance among various races. That is why the Madani government, under Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, is the best example for us to ensure that we respect the various different races, religions, and cultures.

"Because this is the uniqueness of Malaysian society," Zahid said during his speech at a Barisan Nasional event in Inanam on Wednesday (Nov 26).

Zahid noted that the Sabah state polls feature a large field of candidates and, based on his assessment, no single party is likely to dominate.

"I am expecting another unity government in Sabah and we want to see political stability in Sabah to be prioritised," he said.

He also emphasised the need for the Pan Borneo Highway to be completed within five years and for long-standing water and electricity issues to be addressed.

Sabah will go to the polls on Nov 29.
