PETALING JAYA: An Indonesian domestic worker forced into unpaid labour was rescued by the Immigration Department after a raid at a home in Batu Caves.
In a statement on Wednesday (Nov 26), Immigration director general Datuk Zakaria Shaaban said the victim was rescued during an operation on Nov 24.
He said the operation followed information gathered by sources.
“During the inspection, the woman was found hiding under a four wheel drive vehicle at the premises,” he said.
Zakaria said investigations showed she hid on her employer’s instructions to avoid detection.
“The 56-year-old had worked as a domestic helper for about 16 years without a valid pass. Based on her statement, she was promised RM600 a month but had not been paid for the past two years,” added Zakaria.
Zakaria said the victim was traumatised by abuse and barred from contacting her family or returning home.
“She was also forced to work without rest, to the point she had to hide just to sleep.
During the operation, a 51-year-old Malaysian man, the employer, was arrested,” he said.
He said the employer admitted obtaining her services through a close family member.
Zakaria added that firm and uncompromising action will be taken against parties involved in human trafficking.
