Court fines 16 Rohingya for joining unlawful organisation


BUKIT MERTAJAM: The Magistrate's Court here on Wednesday (Nov 26) fined 16 Rohingya men between RM2,000 and RM5,000 each after they pleaded guilty to a charge of being members of an unlawful organisation.

Magistrate Roshayati Radellah meted out a fine of RM2,000, in default two months' jail, each on Jaafar Ahmed Mohammad Shafi, 55; Mubarak Hussain Mohammad Islam, 40; Hamid Khan Kalamiah, 41; Mohamad Yunus Ismail Shorif, 34; Abu Siddiq Muhammad Husson, 41; Nur Hussain Abu Shama, 43; and Syed Hussain Oli Ahmed, 51.

In another court, Magistrate Nurul Rasyidah Mohd Akit meted out a fine of RM5,000, in default six months' jail, each on Muhammad Islam Sultan Ahmad, 56; Mohd Islam Mir Ahmad, 54; Hamid Huson Ismail, 45; Nurul Amin Abdul Munaf, 45; Enamul Haque Mohammed Hussein, 43; Abdul Hamid Ahmad Husain, 29; Mohamad Nur Mustak Ahmad, 32; Abdul Kudus Daul Rahman, 42; and Sayed Amin Ruhul Amin, 36, for becoming office-bearers of the unlawful organisation

They were charged with becoming members of the Pertubuhan Islam Untuk Kemajuan Rohingya Malaysia, which is an unlawful organisation as it is established without the permission of the Registrar of Societies, at Lorong Tingkat Ciku 5, Taman Ciku, here at about 3pm last Wednesday (Nov 19).

The charge was framed under Section 42 of the Societies Act 1966 (Act 832), which provides imprisonment of not more than five years or a fine of not more than RM15,000 or both, if convicted. - Bernama
