Bus driver and 10 factory workers hurt in accident near Kota Tinggi


KOTA TINGGI: Ten factory workers were injured after the bus transporting them skidded at KM48 of the Johor Baru-Mersing road.

Kota Tinggi OCPD Supt Yusof Othman said the 75-year-old bus driver was also hurt in the 6.15am Tuesday (Nov 25) accident.

"The driver lost control of the vehicle causing the bus to tumble," he said in a statement.

Supt Yusof said all the victims are currently being treated at the emergency unit of Hospital Kota Tinggi here.

The case is being investigated under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

Under the section, it is an offence to drive a vehicle “without due care and attention or without consideration" for other road users.

Penalties include a fine of between RM5,000 and RM10,000, or up to 12 months' jail, or both if found guilty.

Supt Yusof urged witnesses or anyone with information on the incident to contact Kota Tinggi traffic investigating officer Muhammad Danial Syafiq Azhari at 016-8738498.
