Retaining wall collapses at Taman United flats, residents evacuated

KUALA LUMPUR: Residents of the Taman United flats along Jalan Sepadu 7 here have been evacuated after a retaining wall collapsed.

A large section of debris fell onto the road in front of the flats, and a parked car on the road was turned sideways by the fallen wall.

Seputeh MP Teresa Kok’s assistant Alice Lan said the collapse occurred at about 10am on Monday (Nov 24).

“At 9am, residents reported cracks on Jalan Sepakat and the wall collapsed about an hour later,” she said.

“Residents of the flats and owners of two bungalows on Jalan Sepakat were told to evacuate,” she added.

Lan said that the Fire and Rescue Department is assessing the situation and her team knocked on residents’ doors to ask them to leave temporarily for safety.

“However, some residents refused to move,” she said.

At noon, Fire and Rescue Department officers cordoned off the back lanes.

Police officers were also at the site.

The collapsed wall affects about 104 units in Block C of the Taman United flats.

Residents from adjacent blocks were also told to evacuate.
