Fire department evacuates residents after landslide hits Taman United flats

KUALA LUMPUR: A landslide struck a low-cost apartment area along Jalan Sepadu 6, Taman United, Seputeh on Monday (Nov 24).

Residents from two apartment blocks were evacuated as a precaution.

The Kuala Lumpur Fire and Rescue Operations Centre received the report at 11.02am.

A team from the Seputeh Fire and Rescue Station was dispatched with one fire truck and one utility vehicle.

Eleven personnel were sent to the scene.

Station chief TPgB II Armdan Hj Mahat said the landslide involved a 60-metre slope.

He said one car was buried and another toppled, adding several motorcycles were also affected.

Armdan said debris encroached into nearby low cost apartment units.

Following on site discussions with a representative from the Seputeh MP’s office and DBKL engineers, evacuations were ordered.

Authorities evacuated two apartment blocks comprising 104 units and nearby premises due to ongoing soil movement and heavy rain.

“So far, no casualties have been reported,” Armdan said.

He added that Department personnel remain at the site to monitor further soil movement.
