PENAMPANG: The often unpredictable Moyog seat has oddly become somewhat predictable with the majority of voters having more or less made up their minds on who they want as their assemblyman in the 12-cornered fight.
The fight now turns to the upper parts of Moyog where it is learnt that about 30% of voters are split on their preferred candidate.
Spanning Kampung Babagon to Kampung Terian, these 6,000 voters could very well become the kingmakers.
“Everyone is split up there. The support is spread across the various parties and it can be difficult to gauge how things will pan out.
“It is here where the winner will be decided,” said Jenifer Lasimbang, a former Moyog elected representative and assistant state minister under the Warisan administration between 2018 and 2020.
Lasimbang, who is the adviser to Warisan’s Moyog election machinery, said 70% of the voters there have already reached a decision on who to vote for.
“They have expectations of what they want their elected representative to have and are pretty much ready to cast their votes,” she said.
It is also learnt that Warisan, Upko and Sabah STAR are frontrunners for the seat.
Warisan is represented by its vice-president Terrance Siambun, Upko by Datuk Donald Peter Mojuntin and Sabah STAR by Joseph Suleiman.
Both Terrance and Donald have previously served as Moyog assemblymen.
Pakatan Harapan, Gabungan Rakyat Sabah and Perikatan Nasional are also among the coalitions vying for the suburban Kadazandusun seat.
When met on the campaign trail, Pakatan’s candidate Remysta Jimmy Taylor appeared unfazed over the crowded race.
“We are trying our best. The mood is good and we are in good spirits.
“The momentum is picking up pace closer to polling day,” he said.
Remysta said he has covered all 13 polling districts in Moyog, adding that he has a packed schedule with at least six programmes a day.
