Remand for murder suspect in body-in-mattress case extended by one week

MELAKA: The suspect in a murder case where a decomposed body was found wrapped in a mattress has been remanded for another seven days.

Melaka police chief Datuk Dzulkhairi Mukhtar said the remand period of the suspect, a 40-year-old man, was extended to assist the investigation.

"Police are still awaiting instructions from the public prosecutor's office for further action," he said in a statement on Thursday (June 4).

It was previously reported that a decomposed body, with the hands tied together found wrapped in a mattress in a shophouse in Pokok Mangga on May 28.

The victim is believed to have died more two weeks ago due to its decomposed state.

The body was discovered by the owner of the premises who was inspecting the shophouse because his tenant could not be contacted.

Police arrested a 40-year-old man over the case which is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder. – Bernama
