RM2.71mil worth of undeclared beer seized at Port Klang

BUTTERWORTH: Three containers of undeclared imported beer worth almost RM3mil have been seized at Westport in Port Klang, Selangor.

Penang Customs director Datuk Rohaizad Ali said officers found 116,952 cans of beer in the containers during an inspection on Oct 16.

The shipment, declared as ammonia bicarbonate, was believed to have originated from an East Asian country and was imported by a Cheras-based company.

"The estimated value including duties and taxes is about RM2.71mil," he said during a press conference at the department’s enforcement store in Bagan Jermal on Thursday (Nov 20).

The case is being probed under Section 52 of the Customs Act 1967 for false declaration, which carries up to five years’ jail, a RM100,000 fine, or both.
