Cops seize items worth RM200,000 in raid on Johor house used for online fraud


KLUANG: Police have arrested a 23-year-old local man and seized about RM200,000 worth of items during a raid on a house believed to be used for online scam activities.

Kluang OCPD Asst Comm Bahrin Mohd Noh said the joint operation was carried out on Tuesday (Nov 18) by officers from Bukit Aman’s Commercial Crime Investigation Department (CCID) and Kluang police.

He said police conducted a raid and inspection at a house here after receiving information that it was being used for online fraud.

“During the raid, our team successfully arrested a suspect at the scene. We also seized several items believed to be linked to the syndicate’s activities,” he said here on Thursday (Nov 20).

He added that among the items seized were 30 mobile phones, RM82,571 in cash, 12 Touch ’n Go eWallet cards, a gold necklace, five gold bars and a money-counting machine.

ACP Bahrin also said the total estimated value of the seized items amounted to RM200,000.

“Initial investigations showed that the suspect had been withdrawing proceeds from fraudulent activities using Touch ’n Go debit cards at ATM machines,” he said.

ACP Bahrin also said the suspect was under remand until Nov 22 to help with investigations under Sections 424A and 420 of the Penal Code.

He advised the public to remain vigilant when encountering advertisements and promotions on social media platforms.

“Always verify with the relevant authorities such as the police and Bank Negara to ensure the legitimacy of such offers,” he said.

ACP Bahrin added that the public can also obtain the latest information on commercial crime modus operandi through the Commercial Crime Investigation Department’s Facebook, Instagram and TikTok pages.
