KUALA LUMPUR: Anyone who breaches ethical or moral standards when preaching Islamic teachings will not have their tauliah (accreditation) renewed and action may also be taken against them, says Dr Zulkifli Hasan.
The Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Islamic Affairs) said the ministry as well as Islamic Development Department (Jakim) have expressed concern over the issue of speakers who might have violated their accreditation.
“We are reviewing the accreditation requirements to ensure that only those who are genuinely knowledgeable and who deliver their teachings with sincerity are granted approval.
“Anyone who breaches ethical or moral standards will not have their accreditation renewed and may also face further action,” he told the Dewan Rakyat yesterday.
He was responding to Mohd Sany Hamzan (PH-Hulu Langat) who wanted to know what are the measures taken by the authorities against preachers or religious speakers who abused their roles by spreading false narratives that touches on race, religion and royalty.
Zulkilfli also said Islamic educational institutions should be registered with the authorities to ensure that the institutions’ safety, welfare, education quality and curriculum are recognised and maintained.
He said under the laws governing religious schools in the states, including the regulations for the administration of religious schools, it is stipulated that all Islamic educational institutions must be officially registered.
The regulations cover the education curriculum starting from pre-school level, religious primary and secondary schools, private schools and maahad tahfiz or pondok schools.
“It is an offence under the current laws to operate unregistered Islamic educational institutions
“We do not want a repeat of situations where students are unable to register or sit for the Ujian Penilaian Kelas al-Quran dan Fardhu Ain (UPKK) examination.
“Without proper registration, it will be difficult for any Islamic educational institution to receive the allocations or provisions from the authorities,” he added.
