School security guard claims trial to sexually assaulting student


MELAKA: A 59-year-old school security guard has claimed trial at the Sessions Court in Ayer Keroh here to a charge of physical sexual assault on a male student.

The accused, an army retiree, pleaded not guilty after the charge was read to him before judge Rohatul Akmar Abdullah on Tuesday (Nov 18).

According to the charge sheet, the accused allegedly engaged in prohibited physical contact with a 13-year-old boy for sexual purposes.

The alleged incident took place at 1.23pm on Nov 11 in the boys’ toilet of a school in the Melaka Tengah district.

The charge was framed under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017, which carries a jail term of up to 20 years and whipping, upon conviction.

The court later granted bail of RM9,000, setting conditions requiring the accused to report to the police monthly and to refrain from any contact with the victim.

It also fixed Jan 6 for next mention.

The accused, a father of six, was seen in tears in the dock before he was comforted by his wife and lawyer.
