KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has confirmed that he reprimanded his political secretary over the issuance of a contractor support letter for a hospital project last year.
The Prime Minister clarified that government rules and principles do not permit such actions.
"If there is a letter addressed to me, the maximum I can write is 'please review'. That is the standard.
"There are dozens of letters in Sabah alone, some about contracts, and we simply say 'please review'.
"But issuing any form of support is not allowed. I agree with Pasir Mas on this,” the Tambun MP told the Dewan Rakyat during the Minister’s Question Time on Tuesday (Nov 18).
He was responding to a supplementary question from Ahmad Fadhli Shaari (PN-Pasir Mas), who sought clarification on allegations that the Prime Minister’s political secretary had issued a support letter listing contractors for a 2024 hospital project to the Health Ministry.
Ahmad Fadhli claimed that out of six contractors listed in the support letter, only two were qualified.
“The others had no CIDB records (Construction Industry Development Board) and faced disciplinary action, yet the public has seen no response from the Prime Minister,” he said.
Ahmad Fadhli did not specify which hospital project was involved in the letter of support.
