JOHOR BARU: The RTS Link Johor Baru-Singapore project reached a critical milestone as Train Set 02 became the first unit to be successfully positioned at the Wadi Hana Depot for testing and commissioning.

The four-car train set departed the CRRC Rolling Stock Centre in Batu Gajah, Perak, on Nov 12 and completed its 541km journey at approximately 70km/h, arriving at the depot at midnight yesterday.

RTS Operations Pte Ltd (RTSO) chief executive officer Dr Ahmad Marzuki Ariffin said the entire transport operation was meticulously planned, taking into account safety, traffic and weather factors.

“The delivery of this train marks the project’s transition into the pre-operational phase, involving various system tests and integration activities to ensure the train and its infrastructure function flawlessly and comply with safety standards,” he told Bernama yesterday.

He said a total of eight train sets, each comprising four coaches, will eventually operate the RTS Link service connecting Johor Baru and Singapore.

In the first stage, four train sets will be delivered and based at the Wadi Hana Depot, which serves as the central maintenance facility and operational hub.

The remaining four sets are scheduled to arrive in phases by December.

The four-kilometre RTS project, linking Bukit Chagar in Johor Baru to Woodlands North in Singapore, is expected to be completed in December 2026.
