ISKANDAR PUTERI: Johor’s revenue has been on a steady rise over the past six years and is expected to hit RM2.55bil next year, says Mentri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi.

He said the state government is expecting a RM4.46mil surplus in its Budget 2026 projection.

“We estimate our revenue for 2026 to be around RM2.55bil while the estimated expenditure will be about RM2.54bil,” he said when tabling the state budget at the state assembly yesterday.

The state’s coffers have been on a steady increase with RM1.43bil collected in 2021, followed by RM1.63bil (2022), RM1.94bil (2023) and RM2.11bil (2024).

Highlighting Johor’s strong economic performance, Onn Hafiz said the state recorded RM218bil in investments over the past three and a half years, creating more than 64,000 job opportunities.

He said Budget 2026 was formulated with determination to ensure the well-being and prosperity of Johoreans.

“Every initiative under this budget aims to safeguard the welfare of Bangsa Johor,” he added.

Onn Hafiz said that under the theme of “Bangsa Johor Sejahtera”, the Budget 2026 is aligned with the state’s six development pillars under the Teras Maju Johor framework, encompassing 260 initiatives across various sectors.

He said the state’s unemployment rate remains among the lowest in the country at 2.3%, with GDP growing by 6.4%, which is the highest.

“The value of our agricultural produce sales has also reached RM27.2bil, which is the highest in the country.

“Besides, we are seeing positive growth across multiple fronts including zakat collection, local council revenues, the Johor State Secretary Incorporated (PKPJ) and profits from state-owned GLCs,” he added.

Onn Hafiz said these encouraging trends reflect Johor’s economic resilience and the state government’s commitment to responsible fiscal management.

In line with Visit Johor 2026, he said the state government has set aside RM15mil to implement various initiatives, including promotions and publicity along with organising international-level events in Johor.

“We will also use the allocation to maintain and upgrade facilities at all national parks and eco parks statewide, including for manpower development, especially those involved in the tourism sector.”
