Johor records best SPM performance in five years

JOHOR BARU: Johor achieved a National Average Grade (GPN) of 4.28 in the 2025 Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examinations, its best performance in the past five years.

State Education Department acting director Ali@Zainalabidin Syed Mohamed said a lower GPN value indicates better candidate performance in the SPM examinations.

"Johor's GPN in 2025 is 4.28, a decrease of 0.08 points compared with the 4.36 recorded in the 2024 SPM examinations," he said.

"The state's SPM GPN index has surpassed the national GPN achievement of 4.42," he told a press conference to announce the results at the state Education Department headquarters here on Tuesday (March 31).

Ali said that, based on an analysis of SPM results from 2021 to 2024, this was Johor's best achievement in five years, adding that 81 of 276 schools achieved a 100% pass rate.

"Of the 42,705 students registered for the 2025 SPM examinations, a total of 40,121, or 95%, qualified to receive their SPM certificates.

"A total of 1,611 candidates in Johor obtained excellent results in the 2025 SPM, with 36 of them scoring A+ in all subjects, slightly fewer than the 41 candidates who achieved straight A+ in 2024," he added.
