WITH Hari Raya travel expected to increase this week, efforts are being stepped up to promote safer riding habits, particularly among motorcyclists heading back to their hometowns.
At the “Pakai Lengkap, Balik Selamat – Kempen Keselamatan Jalan Raya Balik Kampung Yamaha Kali ke-28: 2026” held in Seremban on Sunday (March 14), riders were encouraged to prioritise safety by wearing proper protective gear and ensuring they remain visible on the road.
As part of the initiative, safety vests were distributed to participants by Berjaya Sompo Insurance Bhd. This was aimed at improving rider visibility and reducing accident risks during the busy balik kampung period.

The focus on motorcyclists is especially crucial, as data from the Malaysian Institute of Road Safety Research (Miros) shows that they account for more than 60% of road fatalities in Malaysia – a number that typically rises during festive travel seasons.
Campaign organisers said simple measures such as wearing appropriate gear and staying alert can significantly reduce the risk of accidents, particularly during long-distance journeys.
The programme also highlighted the importance of having adequate protection while travelling, including insurance coverage for both motorcycle-related risks and unexpected travel incidents.
For those looking for additional guidance, a handbook titled “The Good Riders: Panduan Keselamatan Motosikal” has been made available, offering practical tips for safer riding.
Initiatives such as these reflect ongoing efforts by both public and private stakeholders to enhance road safety awareness and support safer journeys for Malaysians during peak travel periods.
