KOTA KINABALU: The governor's son, a husband and wife pair, the brother of an incumbent, and a former state speaker’s son are among the 51 names announced to contest in the Nov 29 State Elections.

Hazem Mubarak Musa, son of Tun Musa Aman, would contest in Sungai Manila, while Usno president, Tan Sri Pandikar Amin Mulia, and his wife, Diana Diego Yusrina Sufiana, would stand in Sekong.

Suspended Umno leader Datuk Shahelmey Yahya was not chosen to defend his Tanjung Keramat seat, but his brother, Shah Alfie Yahya Ahmad Shah, was selected as the candidate.

Lamag and Sukau were represented by Datuk Johanizamshah Johari and Datuk Juhari Janan, respectively, while Balung was represented by Syed Ahmad Syed Abas, the son of Sabah’s ninth speaker, Datuk Seri Syed Abas Syed Ali.

The GRS coalition is comprised of six parties: Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah, led by Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor; Parti Bersatu Sabah, led by Datuk Seri Dr Joachim Gunsalam; Usno, led by Tan Sri Pandikar Amin Mulia; Parti Cinta Sabah, led by Tan Sri Anifah Aman; Liberal Democratic Party, led by Datuk Chin Su Phin; and Parti Harapan Rakyat Sabah, led by Tan Sri Liew Yun Fah

All the party presidents would contest, except for Chin from the LDP and Liew from Harapan.

Joachim would defend his Kundasang seat while Anifah would stand in Bongawan.

Hajiji, who would defend his Sulaman seat, urged GRS members to put their dissatisfaction aside and fully support the candidates to ensure GRS win bigger in the state polls.

“Let us strengthen our unity, close ranks, and ensure that GRS remains the people’s choice to continue governing Sabah. Vote for GRS and let’s keep building a progressive and prosperous state together,” he said during the announcement event in Sabah International Convention Centre, here, Wednesday (Nov 12).
