‘Asean summit RM184mil price tag in line with ministry limit’

THE total estimated cost of hosting the 47th Asean Summit and Related Summits in Kuala Lumpur from Oct 26 to 28 came up to RM184.4mil, says Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan.

He said the expenditure was in line with the limit approved by the Finance Ministry and carried out according to financial procedures, with optimal cost-saving measures in place.

Preparations for the high-level meeting began early this year, with attention given to protocol arrangements, security management and public safety at conference venues and accommodation sites, he said.

“These aspects were given particular emphasis to ensure smooth implementation of all programmes and the safety and comfort of the heads of state, government and their delegations during their stay in Malaysia,” he said in a written reply to Lim Lip Eng (PH–Kepong).

Mohamad said the coordination of security and logistics was led by the Foreign Ministry with the involvement of several ministries and agencies.

“The 47th Asean Summit and Related Summmits were successfully carried out through careful planning, strong coordination and full commitment from all agencies involved,” he said.

Mohamad added that the event received positive feedback from participating countries and the international community, reflecting Malaysia’s preparedness and organisational capability in hosting major global summits.
