JAKARTA: Asean secretary-general Dr Kao Kim Hourn will lead the Asean Secretariat delegation to the 47th Asean Summit and Related Summits in Malaysia from Sunday (Oct 26) to Monday.

Several milestone events are expected on the sidelines, including the signing of the Declaration on the Admission of Timor-Leste into Asean, Finland's accession to the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia (TAC), and the Second Protocol to Amend the Asean Trade in Goods Agreement (ATIGA).

The 5th Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) Leaders' Summit and the Asean Prize Presentation Ceremony are also on the agenda, according to the Secretariat in a statement on Thursday (Oct 23).

Ahead of the Summits, Kao will take part in ministerial-level meetings on Saturday, including the Asean Foreign Ministers' Meeting (AMM), the 30th Asean Political-Security Community (APSC) Council Meeting, the 37th Asean Coordinating Council (ACC) Meeting, and the Asean Joint Foreign and Economic Ministers' Meeting.

He is also scheduled to hold bilateral talks with senior representatives from Asean member states, external partners, and international organisations to discuss strengthening cooperation, identifying new areas of collaboration, and advancing Asean Community-building efforts.

"These high-level meetings offer an important platform to review Asean's progress, set new priorities, and reaffirm the region's commitment to peace, stability, and inclusive, sustainable growth," the Secretariat added.

The 47th Asean Summit and Related Summits are scheduled to take place at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre.

The meetings will discuss a range of issues concerning regional peace, economic resilience and inclusive growth under Malaysia's Asean 2025 Chairmanship themed "Inclusivity and Sustainability". - Bernama
