DESPITE its reputation of being aggressive, a wild boar at a temple in China’s Guangdong province has become a social media star after it was caught on film bowing in exchange for treats, reported China Press.

Affectionately named Zhu Wu Mei (Fifth Sister Pig), the boar has been living near the temple in Jiangmen city since 2018 when a staff member rescued it after its leg got caught in a hunter’s trap.

Over the years, the swine has become somewhat of a tourist attraction at the temple.

A video widely shared online showed Zhu Wu Mei bowing to a tourist in exchange for an apple, which is its favourite food.

According to a temple volunteer, Zhu Wu Mei has never hurt anyone.

In fact, the volunteer said the wild boar is cheeky. Zhu Wu Mei would overturn its bowl if the food did not suit its taste.

Tang Lijun, the head of food and biotechnological department at a technical college, said the boar’s friendliness likely came from long-term care and positive interaction with humans.

> A 72-year-old woman in Kulai, Johor, was molested on her way to the market, sparking worries about safety in the area, reported China Press.

Identified only as Sun, she was walking to the market in Kampung Baru Kulai at 6.20am on Saturday when someone grabbed her chest from the back.

She turned around and saw a middle-aged man, who then threw a soaking-wet brassiere at her before fleeing in a car.

“I don’t know how to use a phone and I did not manage to get the number plate,” she said.

Sun’s daughter called the police later.
