A GRANDMOTHER in Tamil Nadu strangled to death her daughter’s newborn baby, Malaysia Nanban reported.
The baby’s mother Priyadarshi-ni, 25, from Erode was admitted to a private hospital for delivery last week. Soon after the baby was safely delivered, the grandmother Thangamani, 47, reported to the doctor that the child was not breathing.
Doctors were shocked to find that she had died. They reported the matter to the police as they deemed the death suspicious.
Thangamani eventually admitted that the newborn had been strangled and confessed to killing the baby.
In her statement, she said Priyadarhini was struggling to take care of the family because her husband Selvakumar had taken to drinking every day.
Thangamani felt that as the couple already had a four-year-old daughter, having another girl would only burden her daughter more.
So she decided to kill the newborn. The grandmother was arrested and is awaiting charges.
