Police investigating teen's fatal fall at Komtar Skywalk

GEORGE TOWN: The police have opened an investigation into the case of a teenager who fell off the roof of Komtar on Friday (July 24).

Penang Fire and Rescue Department Zone 1 chief Jamil Abdullah said firefighters received an emergency call at 4.17pm and arrived at the scene eight minutes later.

The victim, identified as Tan Tze Kim, 18, was found on the podium roof wearing a wristband that allowed entry to the Komtar Skywalk, indicating he had entered the attraction before the incident.

"The victim was brought down using ropes and a stretcher as the roof was inaccessible by conventional means.

"The retrieval was made more difficult as the roof surface was slippery after the rain, requiring firefighters to exercise extra caution throughout the operation," Jamil said.

He added that the body was successfully brought down at 6.11pm.

The victim was pronounced dead by Health Ministry personnel at the scene before being handed over to the police for further action.

The operation, involving seven firefighters from the Lebuh Pantai Fire and Rescue Station, ended at 7.09pm.
