Sabah polls: GRS will support ex-members contesting under PKR banner, says Hajiji

KOTA KINABALU: Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) will still support two Gagasan Rakyat leaders who have been named as PKR candidates for the coming state election, says Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor (pic).

They are Datuk Jamawi Jaafar, 42, in Melalap and Datuk George Hiew, 46, in Karamunting.

The GRS chairman and Gagasan Rakyat president said this support is because PKR is a component of Pakatan Harapan, which is GRS's partner in the Nov 29 Sabah election.

"This is their democratic right (to) choose to be candidates for PKR... (which is) coincidentally our partner in government.

"To me, it’s OK. That’s the dynamics of politics in Sabah," Hajiji told reporters after an event here on Monday (Nov 10).

He said PKR’s candidacy announcement on Sunday (Nov 9) meant that Jamawi and Hiew are no longer Gagasan Rakyat but PKR members.

"We have let them go... so let it be. We’ll support them because they are Pakatan candidates," he said.

Asked about his coalition's reaction if the Federal Government appeals the High Court decision mandating the review of Sabah’s 40% net revenue entitlement, Hajiji said he did not wish to comment further as he had issued an earlier statement.

"We have said that, if possible, we do not want the Federal Government to appeal.

"(But) if it wants to, it will," he added.
