KLANG: The Klang Royal City Council (MBDK) hopes that allocation in the Selangor Budget 2026 will focus on improving infrastructure, especially in mitigating floods.

Its mayor Datuk Abd Hamid Husain said there are seven main areas, including Meru, that need attention for the long and short term for flood mitigation efforts.

For the upcoming tabling on Friday (Nov 14), he said the Drainage and Irrigation Department would need more allocation to maintain retention ponds and irrigation and carry out developmental plans to address floods.

“In tackling flood issues, we have seen many projects and programmes organised by the state and federal governments. So, we hope the budget for this purpose can be increased.

“Apart from that, for Klang as a busy port city, we hope there are improvements to infrastructure such as roads to the ports and factories. We’d like to see the Public Works Department given the necessary allocation to rectify and upgrade all the roads including street lights,” he told the press here on Monday.

Abd Hamid said this after witnessing Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR) and Acmar Group formalising a strategic partnership through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) at a ceremony held at Wyndham Acmar Hotel, here on Monday.

Also present was Higher Education Ministry Public HEI Governance Division director Izamael Zamzuri Ismail, who represented the ministry’s director-general Datuk Prof Dr Azlinda Azman.

The event also saw the official launch of Bandar Baru Klang Catalytic Development Master Plan International Design Competition 2025/2026, a global initiative co-supported by the Belt and Road Architectural University International Consortium (Brauic), Klang Royal City Council and Higher Education Ministry.

Selangor’s Budget 2026 is scheduled to be tabled at the State Legislative Assembly sitting this Friday.
