SHAH ALAM: Amanah intends to contest for an additional state assembly seat in the 17th Sabah State Election, says its president, Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu.
He said the matter has been referred to Pakatan Harapan secretary-general Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail for discussion with the coalition's other partners.
"So far, we have mentioned contesting Sulabayan, which is indeed a tough seat. However, when entrusted, we will try our best wherever we are allocated to contest," he said at a press conference after officiating the 2025 Amanah National Convention here on Saturday (Nov 8).
On whether Amanah has specific seats in mind, Mohamad, who also serves as Agriculture and Food Security Minister, said the party was open to contesting in any constituency deemed suitable.
"I am confident that the coalition of Pakatan, Barisan Nasional, and GRS will regain control of Sabah, Inshaalah," he said.
Earlier, the media reported that the party plans to contest the Sulabayan state assembly seat in the state polls.
At the convention, Mohamad also announced that an educator, social activist, and community leader from Semporna, Mohd Julpikar Ab Mijan, would be the party's candidate for the seat.
The Election Commission has set Nov 29 as the polling day for the state election, with nomination day on Nov 15 and early voting on Nov 25. – Bernama
