Man drowns while bathing in Perak’s Lata Kinjang Waterfall

IPOH: A 33-year-old man drowned while bathing at the Lata Kinjang Waterfall in Chenderiang, Tapah, on Friday (Oct 31) evening.

Perak Fire and Rescue Department acting assistant director of operations Shazlean Mohd Hanafiah said the victim was found unconscious at Checkpoint 12, located near the upper section of the waterfall.

He said the victim’s friend told rescuers that the man had slipped and fallen into the pool before losing consciousness.

“He immediately tried to perform CPR on the victim but received no response and contacted the emergency line for help,” he said in a statement on Saturday (Nov 1).

He said personnel from the Tapah Fire and Rescue Station arrived at the scene at about 5.35pm, about 15km from the station, and began the rescue operation with the assistance of police, medical officers and local villagers.

“The rescue team had to hike about 1km uphill to reach the victim’s location.

“The man was brought down on a stretcher and examined by medical officers, who confirmed he had died at the scene,” he said.

He said the victim’s body was later handed over to the police for further action.

A total of 11 firefighters, assisted by 18 personnel from other agencies, were involved in the operation, which ended at 8.57pm.
