IPOH: Over 700 pieces of furniture, household appliances and three vehicles belonging to cosmetics mogul Datuk Seri Hasmiza Othman, popularly known as Datuk Vida, were auctioned for RM1mil at her house in Persiaran Bukit Meru on Thursday (Oct 30).
Assets auctioned included sofa sets, dining tables, curtains, air conditioners, flower pots, chandeliers, carpets, ceiling fans, fridges, televisions, a billiard table, piano, banjo, electric guitars, a telescope and other items.
On Nov 25 last year, Hasmiza had all the items and three vehicles in her house sealed by the Kuala Lumpur High Court after a sub-construction company sought to recover over RM1mil in debt. Hasmiza had failed to settle a debt of RM1,060,285 for the renovation of her factory in Shah Alam into a studio.
Auctioneer S. Punithawathi announced that, after one bidder withdrew, only one registered bidder remained. All items listed in the sale declaration were sold for RM1mil.
"The bidder who managed to purchase all the items at the residence is Norzamri Abdullah, a businessman," she said.
Earlier, sub-contractor Mohamad Taufik Kamarul and his lawyer Samir Zainal arrived at the house at 10.30am, with the bidding ending at 1.40pm.
Samir told reporters that the bidder had successfully purchased all 727 seized assets, including three vehicles, in one lot for RM1mil.
"With that, my duty here as the representing lawyer is completed. I believe this concludes the enforcement action for this particular case, and there will be no further proceedings, at least for this one," he said.
When asked about the total amount owed, Samir said that including interest the sum due was about RM1.1mil, but only RM1mil was paid.
"The remaining balance, including interest, of over RM100,000 will depend on further instructions from my client. I have been informed that a claim will likely be made for that amount," he said.
Asked about the next process, Samir said, "I am not sure what the next process will be since the remaining amount is not as large as before. Since the balance is only around RM100,000, negotiations may still take place."
He explained that the first bidder’s offer did not meet the minimum price set by the court, so they withdrew and the second bidder was successful.
Payment must be made before 4.30pm, but items purchased will not be removed immediately.
Mohamad Taufik expressed gratitude that the process went smoothly and said further discussion about the remaining amount would be carried out.
"The auction process went well. I am satisfied with the professionalism shown by the court officers and the auctioneer," he added.
Datuk Vida and her family members were not present during the auction.
