Man claims trial to hurting, threatening to kill mother in Melaka


MELAKA: A 22-year-old unemployed man claimed trial at the Magistrate’s Court here to charges of allegedly injuring his mother and threatening to kill her.

The accused, U. Sarvin, entered his plea after the two charges were read out before Magistrate Nur Afiqah Radhiah Zainurin on Monday (Oct 27).

According to the first charge, the accused is alleged to have intentionally caused hurt to his 41-year-old mother by twisting her left arm behind her back.

The offence was allegedly committed at about 5.45pm on Sept 12 at a house in Taman Paya Rumput Permai, in the Melaka Tengah district.

The charge, framed under Section 323 of the Penal Code and read together with Section 326A, carries a jail term of up to two years, a fine of up to RM2,000, or both, upon conviction.

For the second charge, the accused is alleged to have criminally intimidated his mother by threatening to kill her, an offence under Section 506 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum sentence of two years’ imprisonment, a fine, or both.

It's learnt that the incident occurred after the victim refused to allow the accused to drive her car as he was believed to be intoxicated at the time.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Hanis Aliah Ahmad Kamarulnajuib prosecuted while the accused was unrepresented.

The court granted bail of RM4,000 with one surety and fixed Dec 4 as the next mention date.
