Jempol cops nab three suspects linked to nine cable theft cases

JEMPOL: Police say they have solved nine cable theft cases following the arrests of three suspects here.

Jempol OCPD Supt Norhisham Mustafar said investigations revealed that the suspects were also responsible for thefts at two transmission towers in the district.

"The three were detained during an operation in the early hours of Oct 24 following a public tip-off regarding cable theft around Bandar Seri Serting," he said in a statement on Monday (Oct 27).

The suspects are aged 36 to 47, he added.

Supt Norhisham said police also seized two cars, cable cutters, and 16 rolls of cable from the suspects.

Also seized was an undisclosed amount of methamphetamine pills.

"A urine test on the suspects also returned positive for methamphetamine," Supt Norhisham said.

The case is being investigated under Section 379 of the Penal Code for theft, and Sections 12(3) and 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

Supt Norhisham said police obtained an order to remand the trio until Thursday (Oct 30) to help with investigations.

He urged the public to call the district police station at 06-4583449 or the nearest station if they had any information related to criminal activities.
